TAIPEI (XFN-ASIA) - Taiwan's cabinet said it will try to keep the island's
inflation rate this year under 3.5 pct.
The target compares with an earlier forecast of 3.29 pct for full-year
inflation.
Last month, domestic and overseas economic research institutions projected
3.5-3.9 pct annual increase in Taiwan's consumer price index for this year.
The cabinet noted that Taiwan's inflation level is still below the 5.5-7.5
pct predicted for South Korea, Hong Kong, Singapore and mainland China.
For the first six months of this year, Taiwan's consumer-price inflation
stood at 3.89 pct.
